About

Kathleen Carr

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I truly enjoy engaging with people and being immersed in a variety of environments. Photography is a tool that I use to capture the essence of the experience in our moment of being, and to represent my subject’s dignity and grace, however imperfect externalities might be.

Always having been attracted to patterns, color pops, and visual stories, I think my photography has been made more interesting by my work as a parent. This has opened me to being more bold in my approach, to being more of an advocate, and to being more attuned to those experiencing quiet needs. In my estimation, nature is having one of those quiet needs, so I have taken to portraying the human-like attributes found in nature to foster a stronger connection for the viewer.

My digital photography is shot in color. However, I sometimes develop those images in Black and White to allow the viewer to more clearly see the nuanced intimacy exhibited by the subject. No portrait image is posed by me and all behavior is spontaneous, with my camera inserted during our interaction to capture that expressive moment.
